What's it all about then eh?

Muse?

Something I've been trying to get to the bottom of recently is why I make things. What's the point? Over the past two years I've concentrated heavily on my career change so haven't had huge amounts of spare time to spend on my own projects. Now that I do have a little more spare time, I'm wondering what to make and why to make it.

The main source of my inspiration was other people, I wanted to create things that gave people experiences, that touched their emotions. Since lockdown, I've not been around many people and so my inspiration/motivation has waned.

Falmouth Uni

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but I'm gonna say it again... When my mum was at Falmouth Uni, studying Illustration, she had a lot of colourful, cool, and quirky art friends. These friends wore funky clothes, made kookie artworks and were always talking about magical things. When I was 10, I felt like I'd finally found my own kind. There weren't people in 'normal' life that were like this, it was an artistic lode. I've met musicians and the odd few artists/illustrators since but never found that level of creative vim again.

Where are you all hiding?

So that's it, instead of pining about the good old days, I'm going to try and find you all! Where are you hiding? I look at a lot of art on instagram but it's not a great platform for making friends or conversing. Maybe you're on reddit, twitter, maybe there's a dedicated platform? Maybe I join a class or a club? I'm gonna try looking around for some arty individuals! And in the mean time...

MediumCat.com is getting a revamp!

I don't want this blog to be my whole entire website, I think it should just be a sideshow and my actual creations should take centre stage! I'm going to make the Medium Cat website I've always dreamed of; illustrations, animations, games and music from the Medium Cat universe! I might even start a snail mail mailing list and be all Daniel Kitson about it, where you've almost forgotten I exist and then you get a little morsel from the deepest darkest recesses of my brain.

Here are some recent scribblings for your enjoyment...
